It was touch and go for me while I was watching Semi-Pro. While watching this movie I was constantly thinking that this character Jackie Moon that Will Ferrell plays seems so familiar to the character Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
I couldn’t shake this feeling that this was just another Ricky Bobby character that instead of being a race car driver, he was just a very stupid basketball player/coach.
Jackie Moon, the owner-coach-player of the American Basketball Association’s Flint Michigan Tropics, rallies his teammates to make their NBA dreams come true.
I will admit that I was somewhat amused in certain parts of the movie, but there were a lot of jokes that were done to death already. You’ll get what I mean when you watch the following teaser clip here.
If you are a die hard fan of Will Ferell’s work, then chances are, you will enjoy this movie even though a lot of the jokes seem to be repeats from previous movies he’s been in. This character he plays has made one to many appearances. If you’re looking for a good time killer for a night when nothing but re-runs are on the TV and you’re already seen all the new release DVD’s, from your local video store, then this would make a good pick.
It isn’t a terrible movie, it does have some entertainment value, but lets just hope that Mr. Ferell come up with a newer character in his upcoming movies because this one is just not that funny anymore.
I would expect the critics that get paid the big bucks and the folks that nit-pick everything they watch to tear 10,000 BC to shreds. First thing they’ll probably point out is the obvious, and that is that all the characters speak English.
Aside from a few accuracy mistakes dealing with time line of prehistoric man and the fact that they probably grunted more than they would have spoken perfect English, this movie was very entertaining.
A prehistoric epic that follows a young mammoth hunter’s journey through uncharted territory to secure the future of his tribe.
There were parts of the movie that reminded me of Jurassic Park and you’ll know what I mean when you see it. A bit of Apocalypto, but I’m not going to dive into how this movie is similar to a lot of other movies, but instead, I’ll just comment on the entertainment value of the film itself.
I actually enjoy these genres of movies. The prehistoric theme is always something that intrigued me and I guess that’s what drew me to this one. It gets a lot of bad flack with people saying there’s more CGI than storyline, but in my opinion, I followed the story just fine. Tribe gets kidnapped, survivor tries to save them and in his journey he befriends some allies and saves the day. That’s a storyline isn’t it?
The special effects were pretty good, but these days commenting on special effects is like commenting on the casts clothing. It is something that can be done very easily not like it was in the early Star Wars days.
To sum it up, I actually enjoyed this movie, and would recommend it for a DVD rental. It’s not all that bad as some critics go on about. On the other hand, if you’re the type of person that is stern on accuracy when it comes to prehistoric story telling, then this will have you furious with facts screaming from the tops of your lungs. I would recommend steering clear, unless you can put your fact book aside for a couple of hours.
If you are like me, then you too probably enjoy some of the Horror movies that come out of Asia. Either it be China’s or Japan’s, they both usually put on a very creepy but entertaining flick.
There is one that caught my eye and I would really like to see and it is called DeathNote. You can watch the Exclusive Trailer to see a bit of it and know what you can expect. If that is not enough for you, you can go to this DeathNotesite and read up on what it’s all about. To shortly sum it up, it’s a supernatural action-mystery manga and follows a story of an ace student who finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook ends up dead.
There is a two night only showing in select theaters in May on the 20th and 21st. Unfortunately, it is not showing around my area, so I will have to get the DVD when it becomes available. It probably wont be long before Hollywood does a remake of it for those who don’t like subtitles or dubbed audio. But that’s just my personal prediction.
I thought it would be nice for a change to give a heads up on a title that I enjoy but isn’t a huge box office hit. A foreign film can be just as good as the rest of them and I bet this one will creep the heck out of me when I get a chance to watch it.
I’ll do a full review of it when I do watch it. I’m pretty sure it will be a good review too. These type of movies draw me in like a moth to a flame.
Without getting into details, lets just say that when I’m awake, I’m getting ready for work, and when I’m off work, I’m to burnt out to sit upright.
I’ll be starting a new, and MUCH better job at the end of the week that will give me more personal time and some reviews can finally start flowing through here again on a regular basis.
This is not an excuse, it’s a reason. I really hate it that I cannot post more often here at the moment. But hopefully things hit off teh way I think they will the following week.
Hang in there.
Here are a few things that I hope to touch base on soon.
10,000BC
GTA IV on PS3
The Bucket List
Semi Pro
The Forbidden Kingdom
and a whole lot more.
Stay tuned. Things really should pick up again soon.
Yes, you read the title of this post correct. Basically what I mean here is, is that you can participate in a contest where you make and direct your own commercial and then after you submit your work, I and millions of other people from around the world will vote by rating your video when it is displayed on the NBC Web Site for the Dockers contest.
At the moment there aren’t very many submissions right now, so your chances of winning are really good at the moment. So by making your commercial and getting it submitted sooner just means more folks will be viewing yours more than the later submissions. That’ll end up meaning more votes in the long run. So far the only one I really like is the Jay Leno one.
So go do what you have to. Go to Dockers and get some duds to show off in your commercial. Show them off the best way you can.
When you have completed your commercial just head on over to the Dockers contest and submit it. That’s all you have to do. Then just leave the rest to the rest of the world and myself.
Before you start creating your work, just make sure you goto the Dockers contest page and download the files that they want you to use. It’s basically a music track and a bit of video. So actually you don’t have to worry about finding music and additional video footage, how easy is that huh?
Also it would be really awesome if you left a comment here letting us all know that you have submitted a commercial so we can all go see.
Wouldn’t is be great if there were more contests like this? This one is going to be pretty fun, I hope. I’m going to give it a shot and see, and so should you.
I haven’t actually seen Frontier(s) as of yet, but as soon as I can see it, I will be. That is if I get the chance to that is.
Apparently this movie has been given an NC-17 and what that means is, not a whole lot of theaters will actually show the film because it has been deemed to have extreme sadistic gore and violence. A lot of theaters try and avoid being tagged a supporter by the uptight ‘Leave it to Beaver’ type families and just refuse to show the movie at all. Which is actually pretty sad for the horror fans out there.
Although I don’t encourage violence among people in the real world, I enjoy watching a gory movie now and again. I like the shock value that they give. To actually have a movie have you sit in your seat and cringe like a little school girl at every scene that gets intense with freaky gory moments is pretty fun. A lot of times it can be laughable.
I can sit there and watch a movie like this knowing it’s not really real. It’s the directors ability to use special effects and make it look so real that impresses me. It not like I get off watching people get dismembered or anything, it more of a mind set of, what if that were you?
The movie was intended to be featured in one of After Dark Horrorfest’s 8 Films To Die For, but instead of dulling it down to a rater ‘R’ movie they decided to have it Unrated and have it set to premier in select theaters May 9th. Unfortunately, non remotely close to me. So I’ll have to wait for the DVD. You can watch the unrated Trailer to catch a gimps of the film, that is if you have the guts to.
You can actually check out the web site for locations this one is playing, hopefully you’re luckier than I am.
All I can say is that after watching the Trailerand reading about all the controversy about the film, I want to see it all the more now!
National Treasure: Book Of Secrets can be the average Indiana Jones fan’s fix. I don’t know about you but I feel that the first movie and this one really reminded me of Indiana Jones. Being an Indiana Jones fan, this fits right in with my genre of Action Adventure type movies.
I like this movies whole concept that there are conspiracies and secret government cover ups that hide the truth about our history. Even if it is fantasy or not, it just gives you the ‘what if‘ feeling that I really enjoy getting out of a movie.
Treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates looks to discover the truth behind the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, by uncovering the mystery within the 18 pages missing from assassin John Wilkes Booth’s diary.
Nicolas Cage plays the know-it-all character (Ben Gates) as he did in the first movie and does it very well, like he usually does in all of his movies. I don’t know, there’s just something about his acting that intrigues me.
The supporting cast play their parts very well too, and it is nice that they use some comedy to break you away from the intense seriousness, reminding you that this is an adventure, not a history lesson.
I really, really enjoyed this movie a lot, and if you too are into action adventure type movies then you too will enjoy this awesome movie.
I seriously recommend that you see this movie. It’s an adventure in itself!
Lets face it, there are a lot of talented people out there that thanks to the Internet, they are able to let the entire world see what they have to offer. A lot of people have hobbies making trinkets or pottery, or even folk art lawn ornaments. A lot of these hobbies are just that, hobbies, and not all of them pay out a whole lot.
